designer + composer: atmosphere, soundscape, place
Theo Teichman’s work explores relations between sound, the body, space, and sense of place. He focuses on walking art practices and field recording as creative forms of engagement and expression of the world. His approach to composition and sound design draws from contemporary research in the neuroscience of auditory perception, spatial theory, phenomenological methods, and acoustic ecology to renegotiate the division between minimalism and complexity to offer a new genre of "ambient complexity." He studied music composition at Carnegie Mellon University with a focus on experimental practices and soundscape composition and Theo furthered training in soundscape composition through a Fulbright research fellowship in Belgrade, Serbia. As an avid collaborator and interdisciplinary artist, Theo has worked in concert music, installation-based sound art, media-scoring, and theatrical sound design. In addition to the sonic practice, Theo works as an transdisciplinary environmental designer with a focus at the intersection of climate adaptation, cultural landscapes, and sense of place.
